3 Beautiful Beaches In The South Of Tenerife

Both Tenerife and the rest of the islands have wonderful beaches for all tastes. Sandy beaches, rocky beaches, coves… You can visit countless beaches, but you will always see that each of them has a particular beauty.

In this article, we present you 3 of our favorite beaches where you can go by car. Don’t forget that if you still don’t have your vehicle, you can rent it from us, Green Car.

La Tejita

La Tejita is located in El Médano, only 20 minutes away by car from Playa de las Américas.

This beach is natural, and because of the area where it is, it is always quite windy. That is why so many kitesurfers and windsurfers come here from many parts of Europe to enjoy these sports in which the wind is so important.

One thing to keep in mind is that this beach overlooks the open sea, so we must be careful if the sea is rough, as you should be cautious with the waves and currents. Never go into the water if you see that it is not safe.

In addition to enjoying the beach, if you like hiking, you can climb to the top of the mountain there, which is called Montaña Roja (Red Mountain). It is a 20 minute walk to the top, it is not complicated and the views are wonderful.

To cool off, you can go for a drink at the Chiringuito Pirata, where you can enjoy a good beer, a soft drink and even eat local dishes such as limpets with “mojo verde”, chopitos, camarones… and much more!

Playa del Abama

La Playa del Abama is located in the southwest of Tenerife, right next to the prestigious Abama Hotel (hence its name). In fact, you will pass through a side area of the hotel to go to this beach.

The story of this hidden treasure is that the hotel wanted this beach to be privatized. Obviously, that is not legal in Spain, so anyone who wants to can access this beach.

It is necessary to go by car there. When you arrive, you will be able to park without any problem in the hotel parking lot. Once parked, you will have to walk along a side road of asphalt.

At the end of the road you will see the beach from above, on your right. Now it’s time to go down the stairs to the beach. The good news is that there is an elevator that goes down to the beach, and the bad news is that only hotel guests can use it. Once you go down the stairs, you will have reached the beach.

If you go with elderly people, with baby carriages, with a cooler… there is no problem. The path you have walked down can be done by car to the beach. Therefore, you can go down by car, unload on the beach and then go back up to leave the car parked.

Also, there is no bar on the beach, so it would be good to bring something to eat and drink.

Playa de Abades

Playa de Abades is located about 30 minutes from Playa de Las Americas. The village in which it is located is called Los Abriguitos, although it is popularly known as Abades.

Accessing the beach is very easy. Once you get to the village, you will have to drive to the part closest to the sea, where you will see plenty of free parking. Once you park your car, you can walk to the beach, which is about 5 minutes away.

You will also find several bars, restaurants and minimarkets where you can have a drink and a bite to eat. Among them are the Pancho Abades, Brisa de Abades, or if you prefer something vegetarian/vegan, the Samelo.

I recommend that you bring snorkeling goggles so you can enjoy the marine fauna of the area.
